Doors & Windows snags

Doors & Windows snags

The mechanical category — locks that don't engage and frames that bind are easier to fix while the trades are still on site.

What to check

  • Alignment
Doors that bind on the frame, gaps that vary along the edge, sashes that don't sit square in the frame.
  • Locks and handles
Every key turns, every multi-point lock engages, every handle returns properly. Test every door, every window.
  • Seals and gaskets
Window rubber seals continuous and unpinched, door draught seals seating properly against the frame.
  • Scratches on glass
Inspect in different light and from different angles — easier to spot at certain times of day.
  • Operation under load
Open and close every door and window in a single walk-round. Issues that don't show up day-to-day surface here.
