Stonewood Park

Drakelow sits on the Derbyshire bank of the River Trent, a short hop from Burton upon Trent — a town whose name is bound up with brewing, and whose Victorian red-brick maltings and ironwork still give the centre its character. The Trent Washlands provide open riverside green space close to town, while Branston Water Park and the Trent and Mersey Canal offer flatter, easier walking for anyone who wants a loop rather than a hike.

The development sits within the National Forest, so woodland planting is a genuine feature of the landscape rather than a marketing line. Rosliston Forestry Centre is close by, Conkers at Moira a little further, and Calke Abbey's deer park lies to the north-east. The A38 runs past Burton linking Derby and Lichfield, with the A444 heading south towards the A42 and M42.

The site itself is the former Drakelow Power Station — its cooling towers were a landmark for decades, and the land is now being remade as housing, open space and new tree cover.
