The real draw for anyone moving to this side of Billericay is Norsey Wood, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and ancient coppiced woodland just north of the town, carpeted with bluebells each spring and criss-crossed with Bronze Age burial mounds and Iron Age earthworks. Lake Meadows, closer to the centre, gives you a boating lake, playgrounds and open parkland for everyday dog walks. Road links are straightforward, with the A127 running east to Southend and west towards the M25, and the A12 reachable to the north. The town also carries a quiet claim to fame: Christopher Martin, treasurer of the Mayflower voyage, lived here, and Billericay's Pilgrim connections are marked around the town.
