Melton Mowbray is best known for its pork pies and Stilton, and the Tuesday and Saturday markets still draw crowds to the town centre. Families are well served by schools including Swallowdale and Brownlow primaries, plus secondary options such as John Ferneley College and Melton Vale Post 16 Centre. For the weekly shop there's a large Sainsbury's, Tesco, Asda and Morrisons, while the high street mixes independents with familiar names. Eating out ranges from traditional pubs to the well-regarded delis and cafés around Nottingham Street. Melton Mowbray railway station runs services to Leicester, Nottingham, Oakham and Peterborough, and the A606 and A607 connect you to Nottingham, Grantham and the A46. Leicester is roughly a 30-minute drive. Surrounding the town is genuinely lovely countryside — Rutland Water, the Vale of Belvoir and the Leicestershire Wolds are all within easy reach for weekends.
