Winchburgh has changed enormously in recent years, with new schools, parks and sports facilities built alongside the housing. Winchburgh Academy and the adjoining primary and early years provision sit within the town, and Holy Family RC Primary serves Catholic families locally. For commuters, the new M9 junction is the big draw — Edinburgh Airport is a short hop, the city centre roughly half an hour off-peak, and Linlithgow station (around ten minutes by car) puts you on the fast line to Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Queen Street. Linlithgow is also worth knowing for its independent shops, cafés and the loch and palace. Closer to home there's a Tesco in Broxburn and a larger Tesco Extra at Livingston, plus local convenience shopping in the village. The Union Canal runs alongside the town, with towpath walking and cycling, and the newer marina has added waterside interest. Pubs and takeaways are dotted through Winchburgh and Broxburn, with much more choice a short drive away.
