Bosham is a village people make a detour for — a knot of flint and brick cottages wrapped around a tidal quay on Chichester Harbour, where the sea comes over the shore road twice a day and regularly catches out drivers who haven't glanced at a tide table. Holy Trinity Church, Saxon in origin, appears in the Bayeux Tapestry and is bound up with the legend of King Canute and the waves. Sailing is woven into daily life here, and the footpaths around the harbour edge make for flat, open walking. Inland, the ancient yew groves at Kingley Vale and the chalk ridges of the South Downs National Park are close at hand, while Chichester brings its cathedral, Festival Theatre and the racing and motorsport at Goodwood. The A27 runs along the top of the village for travel east and west. In winter the harbour fills with brent geese arriving from the Russian Arctic, and the birdwatchers follow them.
