King's Lynn is one of Norfolk's most characterful towns, a former Hanseatic port where medieval warehouses, the Custom House and the quayside still face the Great Ouse as it runs out towards the Wash. The twin market squares host regular markets, and the lanes between them hold independent shops, cafés and pubs alongside the usual high street names, with King's Lynn Minster and the Georgian Guildhall of St George close by. The Walks, a Victorian park in the centre of town, is the main green lung, while True's Yard Fisherfolk Museum tells the story of the old fishing community. Beyond the town, the Sandringham Estate, the beaches at Hunstanton and the bird-rich marshes at Snettisham are all within an easy drive, and the A47 and A10 link west towards Peterborough and south towards Cambridge. The summer King's Lynn Festival, now running for more than seven decades, draws classical music and literary audiences into the historic buildings along the river.
