Farnham is one of Surrey's most appealing market towns, and Birchwood sits close enough to walk into it. The town centre is known for its Georgian frontages along Castle Street and West Street, with independent shops, cafés and pubs filling the older buildings and a long-established arts and theatre venue keeping evenings busy. Farnham Castle looks down over the town from the north, and Farnham Park spreads out behind it — several hundred acres of open parkland and veteran trees that feel properly rural despite being minutes from the shops. Beyond the town, the River Wey threads east towards the ruins of Waverley Abbey, while the heathland and lakes of Frensham Common and the woodland trails of Alice Holt Forest lie a short drive south. The A31 runs along the edge of town, linking west towards Winchester and east towards Guildford and the A3. Farnham also has a genuine craft heritage, with pottery and ceramics still part of the town's identity today.
